Helping Not-for-Profit Boards Be The Best They Can Be

Our special interest association had neglected governance issues for the better part of four decades.  Additionally, Sandi had to build a rapport with all the men on the board – ex-air force personnel – but over a relatively short period of time, she succeeded.  So successful was her effort that she was able to divide the day’s session in two, thereby encouraging the board members to consider the governance knowledge they gained in the morning, and apply it to the development of policies in the afternoon. This effort truly provided us with a return on investment/value for our money.

I've been privileged to work with Sandi Humphrey in my capacity as Chair of the Ontario's Highlands Tourism Organization, a not-for-profit regional tourism organization whose mandate is to build visitation and promote tourism excellence for our region. As a new organization, we benefited greatly from Sandi's expertise in steering us toward a governance system that would ensure accountability and oversight, while at the same time providing our staff with the freedom to fulfill our strategic priorities. Sandi's clarity, passionate delivery and comprehensive knowledge on the key concepts of governance excellence and best practices was instrumental in guiding us towards a highly effective governing style and process.

The Canadian Security Association (CANASA) retained Sandi Humphrey to help conduct a series of exercises in the area of board governance.  Sandi did a wonderful job interacting with board members, collecting information, providing feedback and conducting a full length presentation to the entire board.  As you can appreciate the difficulties of engaging board members on the topic of governance, I must say that Sandi showed strong communication skills. We did conduct a search prior to hiring Sandi and she is clearly in Canada the reference in terms of governance in the not-for-profit sector.

Expert. Insightful.  Enlightening.  No nonsense.  Humorous.  These are all the qualities that Sandi Humphrey brings with her when she does what she knows best: educating Boards and staff on the governance that will bring excellence to their organization.  Our association is one of Sandi’s clients who has benefited from her wisdom and advice.
